Attorneys

Marie Shea has spent the majority of her adult life in the practice of nursing in positions such as staff/charge nurse, nursing instructor and nursing consultant. She has worked at a community hospital, a larger city hospital, a nationally renowned cancer center, and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). As a nursing consultant for the NYSDOH, Ms. Shea conducted hospital inspections and surveys, and investigated complaints of substandard care against hospitals. Ms. Shea continues to practice as a volunteer nurse with Matthews Health Clinic in Matthews, NC.

As an Attorney for the New York State Department of Health, Ms. Shea prosecuted individuals for charges of abuse and neglect of nursing home residents, and for diversion of controlled substances in health facilities.

She also served as lead attorney in a 1999 administrative hearing that resulted in the closure of a substandard nursing home in Rochester, NY. Ms. Shea received a commendation from the New York State Commissioner of Health for her role in protecting the public from nursing home practices that threatened the health and safety of residents.

Ms. Shea who is the mother of three adult children and grandmother of three beautiful grandchildren, lives in Fort Mill, SC with her husband Frank, a high school track and cross-country coach. In addition to volunteering as a nurse, she is a volunteer attorney at The Council for Children's' Rights in Charlotte, a member of the Bereavement Committee at her church, and an organizer for Ladies Night Out with the Charlotte Newcomers.
